They seem to say everything... down to the smashing of the car in anger in "Ghosts". Vampire
let me coax you past this now.
Vampire
let me tell you how to draw
a scorpion
and the wings of yore.
Please
have a bit of mercy
will you?
Mercy
on me
and please
let it be
allowed
to
think
as well...
is that too much to ask?

Vampire
let me sing.
Please.

Those people in the midst of the condemned
including me
or is that me too narcissistic?
Perhaps
and yet
I see what I do see.

And so
take note
voices
do they
and can we
reach
higher
than we ever thought we could?
Call out.
Can we
at least bow our heads
and take notice?

Those who are in fact evil
yes
evil
indeed
set along anyones pathway
we see them
and then
plead.
Fire on the land
amid the open seas
when and where will this story end?

I shudder
eyes that do spy on all
from time
you know it too
right?
Will they somehow be forgotten?
At least by me.
And yet
reluctantly
and equally
well remembered
under traces of our conscience
of a well induced
time
line.
OMG... yes, hopefully!

Scribbled within their plans
an evil doers moods
set upon a lands circumference
light
yet mysteriously
dark
coming through.
I am a victim of a dicodemy
and a vengeance of my own minds
eye.
I wish that I could just let it rest here
within this sigh
but let me watch it
for now
to decide
dicodemy arise.

I am meditative
I am indeed criticized
by my own suspicious moves.
A vampire flying quickly
across a darkened mind
and within its potential
a dark setting moon
of gloom.
And all the while
this gothic tune
became too great
to be known
to certain fairies
who did not understand colors
nor the height of a fires flame.
Ohh dear fairies
not to worry
tis a transgression of sainthood
not perceived by anyone
or is it
everyone?

Well.. let me take that back
yes let me do that
for when I view the ice upon the land
and the fire that pursues it
I am enamored enough to say
it is me
it is you
and the evil or good that passes this way
will forever remain
despite what we complain about.
Everything will keep its pace
and stay
forever in their own ways
lest of course
passion
yes passion
breaks right through.

Youth sought after and a Faery Dragons longing to give a queen eternal youth... to no avail.

"Faery Dragons Roar For Prisoners of Lost Youth and Thus They Cried For a Beautiful Queens Passing"

Faery dragons
roar for prisoners of beauty
when they are caught
in-between
the seasons.

It's true.

Yet more to this tale
of a dragon's queen
seasoned forever
blue.

Victims of time
that age doth ultimately meet
ignoring any setting suns
or romantic affairs
a hero doth meet.
Their set plans
despite anyone's time-line
destiny is of a certainty
pursued.

Protecting herself from the glass
a queen glanced shyly into a mirror.
Ohh, "If only"
was her lament.
If only a different circumstance
age had greeted
a youthful repose
and yet..
No.

Disbelieving strangers
as they said it was not true
a narcissistic queen
left the hallway
and walked into her own
lonely
gloom.
Perhaps it was a fairy dragon
needing her at a dawning midnight
to enhance the queens beauty
and find here forever youthfully
for him
groomed.

Spirits of the dead
sounding off with their whistles
reaching whatever vibrations
a dragon once slain
might recall.

There will thus
always be
gentle souls
who circle round a babies laughter
tending to the scents in the air.
Babies breath
bringing the lovely sound of flowers
to cradle every infants gateway
in a bed of roses
and whisper of loving
care.

So beware
to those who seek a youthful view
for the queen did pass
once she left the dragons room.
Slipping into a trance
of a sparkle
on a lake
that let the moon shine through.
Into a destiny
nebulous swoon
for after the queen met a babies laughter
the fairy dragon sadly
knew...
His queen
mortal be
slipped past eternity
and into the galaxy
of a wilting flowers bloom.

TURN ON THE MUSIC:

"Sound, Tis Such a Lovely Vibration - Don't You Think?"

Vibrations that travel through the air
I am in awe.
If I stand still I can measure them
if only within my soul
while holding my breath
a note to know.
From a fragrant distance
I can feel its humming presence
onomatopoeia put to the test
winging through the trees
past silence.

Impressions of sound
vibrations touching my skin
traveling waves
composed by lenders of sacred visions
where true wisdom
begins.

Such a gift is sound
broadcast from our lips
composed by artists
wind in trees
oceans roar
birds tending to their hungry fledglings
televisions from an open window
right next door
cars passing by
airplanes in the sky
opening my eyes
I hear
the world
as it goes by.

Music
luscious muse
floating through the air
and connecting to this day
inside our atmosphere.
All over my anticipating being
dreams
never that remote
frequencies enticed
made perfectly clear.

From Ballerinas
Cinderella embarks
from their tip toes on stage
rhythm embraced
with what dwells in the heart
thus a brilliant transcending
of a most glorious
holiest art.

My heart waltzes past the open door
sensations found
walking over pebbles on the road
feet causing a moving sound
my mood goes from lowly
into a highlight
appreciating
the simplest
of sounds.

Pencil to paper
scribbling down poetry
rounds.
People in places
I never will meet
writing in silence
for a word to speak.
A tiny utterance of noise
meeting pen to paper
describing inner thoughts
acoustics on play here
creating giant noises
in a tiny minds eye
from an anticipating
hearts sigh.

The bigger more obvious effort being her art of course. It is within pure honesty that the artist shines and Kahlo's star shines for her tonight.

Shocking conservative foes
dressing her canvases
with mirrors
from her very own
battered
and injured soul.

as I stand in the shadows

If I do not understand
mine own pain
I will lust after Frida
and her soulful
honestly delivered
claims.

Mexican goddess
tears marked her days
you and I should remember
such courage
displayed.

Wounded in body
demons of the dark
yet despite convalescence
on canvas
this goddess
left her deepest remarks.

Diego Rivera
came into her life
murals of politics
and Mexican strife.
France did know them
an artists pair
who danced in their art scene
reputations to flair.

Ahh feminist Frida
I light candles to you
when alone in my closet
unsure of what to do.
Cult figure I honor
write notes on my door
remember Ms Kahlo
who painted her soul's roar.

Who better to paint
than the one, one knows best
from cradle to grave
Frida revealed her own struggles
and difficult tests.

Vibrant colors
sure of her gestures
leaving no misunderstanding
Frida Kahlo said and painted
exactly
what her heart measured.

Sexuality not ignored
as some women do
Frido Kahlo said it all
as she thought her life through.

She gave herself freedom
creative displays
dramatic symbolism
gave us visions
within and without
her cast prison.

Within your bodies torturous doorman
your efforts to explore
courageous decisions
will forever ignite me
past the tunes
of simple

I think a thousand and one poems could be written about this video (below) alone... and within that realm of creativity thus flows colors onto canvas; clay between my fingers; wet and waiting to form everything felt within the emotions provoked by the air I breathe within these very seconds.

Seduction is also the name of my painting (above) a 24x36 oil on canvas.

The Day I Saw Salvador Dali Eat Paper-How to Think Outside the Box?

How to think outside the box? Well here is one idea.. lol! A few months before Salvador Dali died I was at a gallery in San Francisco, who featured him. They had a video playing continually of him, rolling paper up in a ball and eating it. True. I was for whatever reason intrigued by that. Questions in my mind mounted about him. It seemed desperate as far as art expression goes to find value in eating rolled up paper wads. Was he going mad or had he always been mad or was I somehow being short sighted and missing some extraordinary expression of artistic courage? Was I 'not hip', not in the inner circle of knowing what makes real art? I did not know much about Dali then and I confess I thought it odd and actually kinda coo coo?

Salvador Dali died a short time later and I could only think of him eating paper with that crazy mustache of his.

Since then I have acquired several books about him to add to my art library. He was sure a strange and dare I say, twisted in many ways, guy. I have to ask myself what it takes to stand out in the art world. Does it take a bit of outrageous thinking to create provocative art? To a certain extent I think so... yup, I do! I guess I have to say, "Viva la twist", sometimes, because what came forth from his artistic soul, gave us visuals that are not only memorable, but quite thought provoking. An artist's goal is always to create a new avenue of thought which Dali did indeed accomplish.

Not to worry, I am not going to suggest as a prerequisite to understanding art we must all start eating paper. But, I do think by that crazy gesture of Dali's, that outside of the box thinking, might just be whatever comes to mind at the time. I may be over thinking it all, and yet it is fun to think about doing something outrageous, to perform nonsense that feels fun. Maybe go to a restaurant in a wild (to you) outfit and pretending to be someone completely different from who you or I are. I would not think that paper would digest all that well (lol), so stay away from being that far over the top, OK? Think outrage though, think farther and let the stars in.

Ahh the inspiration.. the muse of music touching that passion that wants to bleed out of our eyes.

I have been doing so many political sites, speaking out for Obama, because I feel it is so important.. yet I have neglected my art.. my passion that touches the colors and winds up on my canvas. I have neglected the clay between my fingers. Ahh Camille Claudel.. I think of you often despite my outside adventures of hoping that in some way, some tiny way, I can help to change the world for good, but supporting Barack.

Claudia Seymour only began painting in 1996. She grew up in St. Paul, Minnesota and attended Duke University in North Carolina, where she majored in English and met her future husband. After time in Florida, Colorado, London and New York City, where she received her Master's in English, her and her family landed in New Canaan, Connecticut.

Claudia Seymour, president of the historic Salmagundi Club in New York (SCNY) and a prize-winning, widely collected artist, served as guest curator for October 2008. Claudia had this to say about the art of the nude:

"I think the hardest aspect is to present reality and the beauty of the human form without descending into hyper realism or caricature. A portrayal of the nude should have a certain amount of intrinsic grace yet preserve the traditional artistic requirements of value, edge, and tone. This is much easier said than done."

About the October calendar, Ilene Skeen, owner of Barebush, noted, "Looking at Claudia's work, I was first struck by the clarity of form presented in the classical tradition, but looking longer, especially at her latest pieces, I noticed that her use of space and surface is certainly modern. "Within Animated Faery Pictures My Lily Discovers Rainbows or Drawings of Scorpions"

She dances within animated faery pictures, laced with rainbows. And yet...my damsel is sometimes in distress,drawings of scorpions, those grim reaper drawings, haunt us both.This is a rewrite of the poem below... I started thinking maybe it seemed too dismal and it was never really intended to end on that note.

"Within Animated Faery Pictures My Lily Discovers Rainbows or Drawings of Scorpions"

Lily is my inner child.
She dances within animated faery pictures
laced with rainbows.
She beacons a light hearted soul
sometimes found in me.
Lily...
that's what I've named her.
I think of her as someone separate
from me
my solace
my pretend
celtic design tattoos of creativity.
We often sit together
sipping tea
seeking magic
faries and mermaids color pages.
We keep leaves in our pockets
and baby roses at our table.

And yet...
my damsel is sometimes in distress
drawings of scorpions
those grim reaper drawings
haunt us both.

Sometimes
I think of her alone
worried
regretting... always
cold
lonely
fearful
growing older
not pretty anymore
abandoned by creativity
ignored
insignificant
inadequate
seeking out, but not finding validation
never measuring up
still struggling despite her efforts to achieve
sitting on the side of the road
with a cup.
Ahh yes my Lily of drama!

Lily is all the things I fear and more.

So that I might have compassion for the Lily 'in me',

I think of Lily...
her fears
and try to cheer her up!
What are friends for?

She does not need to feel so alone
I am here to help her.

I try to remind her,
that yes!
It IS possible to stand inside a rainbow
that leaves on trees
and baby roses
are tokens that she is worthy of my friendship.
And I sing songs to her
with lyrics that say
she is capable
and can overcome the things she frets about.

Oft times we care for others
more than our our own selves
and forget we exist at all.

I try to give Lily an out, a new road
instead of the same road,
that includes sadness
or whatever I feel causes me or Lily to falter.

Thus I refer to Lily a lot in things I write,
animated faery pictures I guess.
Sometimes Lily falls
and I do too
drawings of scorpions
outshine the possibility of angels.
But...
the more I decide to love me back
love Lily
the warmer we both are.

Name your inner child too, humm?
Offer that side of you a name

"Lily Is My Inner Child,Sometimes Feeling Alone-But I Am Here to Help Her"

Lily is my inner child
that's what I've named her.
I think of her as someone separate
from me.

Sometimes
I think of her alone
worried
regretting... always
cold
lonely
fearful
growing older
not pretty anymore
abandoned by creativity
ignored
insignificant
inadequate
seeking out, but not finding validation
never measuring up
still struggling despite her efforts to achieve
sitting on the side of the road
with a cup.

Lily is all the things I fear and more...
so that I might have compassion for the Lily 'in me'.

I think of Lily...
her fears
and try to cheer her up!
What are friends for?

She does not need to feel so alone
I am here to help her.

I try to remind her,
that yes!
It IS possible to stand inside a rainbow
that leaves on trees
and baby roses
are tokens that she is worthy of my friendship.
And I sing songs to her
with lyrics that say
she is capable
and can overcome the things she frets about.

Oft times we care for others
more than our our own selves
and forget we exist at all.

I try to give Lily an out, a new road
instead of the same road,
that includes sadness
or whatever I feel causes me or Lily to falter.

Thus I refer to Lily a lot in things I write.
Sometimes Lily falls
and I do too
but the more I decide to love me back
love Lily
the warmer we both are.

Name your inner child too, humm?
Offer that side of you a name
and then embrace it.

"From Inside An Open Grave My Lily Did Escape"

Lily opened her eyes from sleeping
lest death take her ore
and rob her of her own breath
this grave
opened up toward hope.
Remembering all
in conflict
wound or victory
thus
Lily spoke:

"Let me be a snowflake
drift in the wind
connect with the atmosphere.
Solace
solace
floating till I reach another wound
past this one.
This one is too hard.

Healing.
Let me know that space
no one around
freedom to dance over oceans
feet never even touching
its liquid whispers
at all.
Yes
I want to fly that high.
I don't care what you say.

I met a sea lion once
he sang along with me
as I ran across the beach.
At first I felt afraid
as magic entered too close.
How could I possibly be that free?
And then?
I melted into it.
Not one other soul around
to deny me
my own tongue
worrisome
broken
setting boundaries
silent to forbidding
if only for a time.

Am I strong enough
To get that back?
Does the breeze tell me I'm OK?
Am I thirsty enough
to stretch past my own clauses?
Am I visible
to me
at all?

How black can the sea be?
How far is the sky?
Might I capture those stars?
How empty, how full
how long
how many times will I commit
to being my own self?

Stars do turn in different directions
within their same galaxy.
Perhaps I am too judgmental.
Wouldn't that be OK
for me too?
Choices to not just embrace
but become their living shadows.

The mystery combs my hair
cleans my body
brushes my teeth
scrapes every single barnacle
away
when I let it.

How lonely is that dragon
or is he in fact
really OK?
Has he gone on to march in parades
under the sea
without me?
Is it really true
what doubters say?

Silver Strand
forever glistening
I hear it still
and I need to
get back.

There is a sandcastle there
the tide cannot overtake it
the magic forever saved
deep inside
my mind.
Dragons yes
they live forever.
And everyone else is a lier.

In moment of doubt
transgressions plotted
It crossed my mind.
It's maybe true
what insecurities say
I might just be addicted
to every unknown fall.
Unsure
standing still I see them
attaching themselves to me
stubborn on my face
will I ever recognize my soul?
Will I ever come up for air?

Masked rescuer died in the Fall
I saw them changing
their minds.
All of those promises
dropping to the ground
brown
raked up
and burned before winter.
Singing
earthquakes come here too.

I wanted to run
to that other side they talk about.
With blood in my ears
I realized
they were mistaken
plagued
by their own determination
that was actually indifference
to love.
Because
oh
they forgot to be kind.
I thought that was the message.

No matter
a dragon awaits me
I felt him breathing
once
on the Silver Strand
Tis not a poor desert flower
in a jar.
No.
I set my table
candle lit
messages unmarred.
And each and every breath
I now take
reflects a sacred note.
My dragon lives forever
with in that grave and out."

"The Value of Being Creative and Why You Need to Embrace It"
Creativity is something to be honored. It is an abstract way of thinking and a base for theoretical ideas, that did not exist before you, or someone else, produced them.

Creativity is something that is interjected into science, nature, philosophy, the arts and just about everything we know and do. It takes a thinking mind to create something of consequence or relevance. Writing; painting; sculpting; taking photographs; baking cookies; arranging flowers; grooming a dog; even re-arranging your desk, it all takes a certain mind frame that is advanced by your conscious input. Be proud of that, by doing the very best you can, in every endeavor you put your mind to. You create and dare I say I even breathe, for that reason.

"The true sign of intelligence is not knowledge but imagination." ~ Einstein

Know that when you create, anything at all, that you are taking an adventure within your own imagination. It is that energy and and intelligence, that sets us a part from animals. Well... most of them anyway, I have seen documentaries of some pretty creative birds. I am sure you can think of a few exceptions as well. You get the picture though I am sure.

If creativity is suspended, in any of the arts, or sciences or even the minor things in our daily lives, I believe a person has stopped pursuing self improvement, and thus begins to shrivel up, both in body and mind and most assuredly in heart. That lack penetrates everything, leaving a person with a certain dullness, that is difficult to restore, once it is gone. We are resilient though, we humans, so it is never too late to pursue ones creative adventures, in whatever interest they might fall upon.

When creativity is pursued in any form, it perpetuates a motion that is difficult to contain. It flows into everything you do and think and see and feel. Poems, paintings, defined philosophies, scientific discoveries and yes, even dog grooming and baking cookies, are based on the creative mind.

Think beyond our your own circle, don't be stuck there, never knowing what is possible for yourself. In that effort you will indeed find knowledge and beauty, that you had not noticed before.

Writing and Art-Ways to End a Relationship-and Zelda

Ways to end a relationship. I have been painting to a dvd of the movie "Camille Claudel" lately.. yes it is in French, yes it is subtitled, no I don't speak French and I only occasionally look up at the TV screen. It is about the passion and I guess the dark side. It is about obsession and the goal of keeping that emotion alive and forever reaching toward being a good artist.

So, why would I have that in a title about Zelda Fitzgerald? It's because I think may have rolled around in F Scott Fitzgerald's head constantly. Mental illness is a difficult thing to deal with and F Scott had plenty of it to deal with with his wife Zelda.

Years ago when I was in High School, and I am NOT saying how long ago that was!..lol! I read a book simply called "Zelda". I have been intrigued with her ever since. She died sadly in a fire in a sanitarium. To a young girl in high school that added a drama that created a mystique for my young mind and remains as I said till today.

Zelda Fitzgerald spent eighteen years of her life in different stages of mental illness. Yet, at times she was able to write some of her best work, including her only novel, "Save Me the Waltz". She also painted several abstract paintings. She died in 1948, with her few remaining unpublished works, her last letters to F Scott Fitzgerald, before he died, the last pieces of what had become a pitiful life. Before she died she was in the process of writing a second novel, "Caesar's Things", when a fire consumed the sanitarium where she lived in Asheville, North Carolina. Sad pitiful end.

Ways to end relationships
ways to leave a lover
sifting through
love tests
love poems
lost dreams
stories that must end.

There is no shadow
only a red hue
blood on your pillow
weeping from some strange angel
that used to be you.

Isn't that true?

You got lost inside a void
a black hole of sorrow
forgot your own meaning?

It is time to move on
say the words boldly
and out loud.

Maybe first just to yourself
get used to the sound of the words
leaving your mouth.

Hear them

then embrace them.

Ways to end relationships
feel it
become strong.

Imagine a strength
that thus far
you only wish was true.

Who would you be
If you were that strong?

What would you say?

You can wait but I'll be gone.

loyal to a fault

How do you make great art? Engross yourself in art. When you breathe, know that it is not possible to think of anything else, but your goal in achieving great art and bathing in the passion you know is in your being. Another is to DEFINE YOURSELF.

How do you find the goddess of art, the scorpion drawing that defies the critics, ward of the grim reaper that tells you that you are not good enough and you will never be a good artist? How do you paint something great, so that when people walk into the room and see it, they are not sure if they 'get it' , but they cannot stop looking at it. How do you bring your soul to the canvas, clay, metal sculpture, etched glass, even a scrapbook? How do you define yourself as a good abstract painter, or within the realm of realism, impressionism,modern art, portrait or figurative art?

How do you make great art?

One thing to help you reach the level you desire is to engross yourself in it. When you breathe, know that it is not possible to think of anything else, but your goal in achieving great art and bathing in the passion you know is in your being. Another is to DEFINE YOURSELF within that world you long for. Read all you can of the words of great artists who came before you or ones you admire.

Wassily Kandinsky had some enlightening things to say:

"Fantasy Art Warrior Women Needed! Artists-Do People Post Your Work Without Giving You Recognition?"

Do people find you as an artist because of fantasy art warrior women? Nope, I attribute being represented in New York to my presence on the internet due to writing articles and posting on ezines, mostly Ezine Articles, which is the best. My art in New York, my dream, ANY artist's dream,made real.

Do I worry about people stealing from me?

Yup, cause yup they sometimes do.

and yet...

I have a newsletter that I attribute my efforts in article writing to its membership. I have noticed that when I am not writing articles the flow of new subscribers goes down. I am 'Artist of the Year" in a little town in Ohio. Too cute! My images were used to promote the efforts of a non profit supporting mothers with AIDS. That happened, because of my internet efforts that I feel comes directly from my article writing.

Fine art paintings reproduction, poetry, things you write, pieces of your soul get stolen, so bring out the fantasy art warrior women, and.. and... do what?

Yes, it definitely happens, people snatch what you write, paint, sculpt or whatever and post it on their own site without giving you credit... 'sometimes'. I have seen some of my artwork, articles and poems especially, used w/o my link or name.

Ewwe! YES that makes me stinkin' mad.

Yet, more often I have seen things I have written or artwork posted on sites that 'DO' give me credit. People contact me directly and ask me for permission as well. I would not blame it on article writing though, thieves can find you anywhere online, if you are active at all. It can happen wherever you post, be it on your blog or profile on MySpace or Facebook ... anywhere, it's the nature of the beast, the beast being the internet.

You can do one of four of things, or actually you can do the top three. I guess it depends on your energy level and just how mad you are because you can also do number four:

1)

Scream profanity and jump up and down and tell everyone you know.

2)

Contact the thief directly, tell 'em they need to give you credit for your poem or article or fine art paintings reproduction or whatever.

3)

Report the stinkin' thief, call out the troops! Bring in fantasy art warrior women or the dragon!

4)

Ignore it and move on.

I choose the latter, unless I find a site that is excessive. I expect to see my work posted on unknown sites, because they found me on an ezine, Much more often, than not, they not only post my name and url, but even my information from my posted resource box. It is all what makes that wheel turn that finally leads to me, or you.

As an artist, or anyone for that matter, trying to stand out is tough, as you know. Article writing is the one tool that I rely on, that aids in causing my shining star to say I am here.

When I check my stats for my main website, the numbers are 'substantially' greater when I write and post on ezines, than when not. I see the difference about a month after I post 5-15 in any given thirty day span. My goal it to do more. It is best to get on a roll with article writing and create a steady flow of them.

The number of reads you get also depends on the keywords you use within your article. You don't want to write something that no one will read do you? Good keywords, remember that!

Another advantage of writing articles for an artist, is publicity you never dreamed of. I have been approached by several different interest groups needing images for their particular event or cause. Oft times however, these have been non profit groups, yet they have been causes I have felt proud to help. It's all adverting. Other contacts result in authors wanting illustrators.

The thing is, if you are not out there on the internet for fear of having something stolen from you? 'You are not out there!'

I get url clicks from my articles. Other things can happen for you because of article writing and posting your artwork online. Contacts made with you that you never imagined. Try it and see.

Can people steal from you? Yup. Does bad stuff happen in life? Yup. But more often than not, good stuff happens, the sun comes out and the sky is blue and you won't need your fantasy art warrior women unless they are on canvas,paper or you are sculpting or writing about them.

Divorce or breaking up brings so much pain, sorrow and regret. I have been down that road before. What could I have done differently, I have a long list. What can men do to save their relationship? I also have thoughts on that, the biggest one being about our dreams.

I always think, what if... what if.. I had done this or that; gone to school more; been encouraged, when I was little, that I could do something. Hindsight has led me to this spot in time of regret. Yet I am now loved by a man, who encourages me everyday, to reach my own personal potential and find out what my dreams are. He believes in me and I am soothed by that.

Women seem to hope that men will read their minds, they don't.

I think men have a hard time noticing the fact that women need a stroke across their foreheads, the words, "I love you", spoken often and with tokens that say so. Tokens can be just cuddling at night, and being told that their sparrow is beautiful; being made to feel that nothing in this world is more important.

Let your sparrow know she is appreciated, for who she is,

and who she might become, if encouraged in finding herself in her own dream.

Not your dream... no,

the dream of your sparrows.

A sparrow who's wings might be clipped, for whatever reason, need to be restored. That is what love does.

A sparrow who has lost her ability to fly, might need to be lifted up to the light, to see that the view goes on forever and it is hers to have. No matter their dreams are not the same... we all must have the brilliance of believing we can fly on our own, within the parameters, that each and every one of us, must define, for our own selves.

Live this moment and feel the breezes on your skin, look across the room and bring your sparrow a token of your love for her.

Encourage your lovely sparrow to 'find out what HER dreams are'. That is the greatest gift that anyone can give.

"Connecting With the Spiritual Artist Inside - Wassily Kandinsky Felt the Colors and So Can You"

Feel the colors and you will know great art.

Wassily Kandinsky has been credited with painting the first abstract. So who was Kandinsky and what motivated him in his art? As an artist I am always trying to understand that question, what motivated this person, within the context of visual or spiritual exploration? What made this man to get up in the morning and decide to paint or sculpt or write? What gave him the inspiration needed to do art despite failures, despite the ups and downs of a complicated life? Who are we within that realm?

I am not really all that interested in the 'how to paint' lessons, mix this color with that one and you will have a great shadow or whatever. I am more interested in what song was in the artist's heart. Who were they? What happened when they felt let down and how did they rise again?

Art is an experience of the heart and I want to know what made that heart beat in some of the masters or crusaders of different art movements.

Oft times we gain insight into artists by things they were quoted as saying.

"Feel the color" ~ Matisse

Ahh that simple quote saying soo much. I confess to saying it EVERY single time I step before a canvas. It isn't about how to mix two to three colors together to get this or that shade of blue, no, it's about connecting spiritually with the colors and the emotion you hope to spread on the canvas. Be it a slather or tiny brush strokes, ya gotta 'feel' it, to paint it, to generate any kind of passion at all.

Wassily Kandinsky, born in Russia in December 1866, passed on December 1944. Kandinsky was one of the most famous artists of the 20th century. So, what did he 'think'? What moved him?

The artist didn't start painting till he was 30. He went to art school, Academy of Fine Arts in Munich, spent some time teaching art, left Russia for France when the Nazis took over. He then became a French citizen. Now, that's a life! Emotions must have abounded in his veins throughout the havoc of World War l. Who was he in all of that, what did he paint and what did he have to say?

Kandinsky learned the how to's, yes he did, and then he moved away from it in a search for 'Inner Beauty", it was a search for fervor of spirit, and a deep spiritual desire that was to Wassily Kandinsy an inner necessity. His passion evolved into a longing to understand color symbolism and psychology. Like Matisse, he FELT the colors, in other words.

At the age of 30, after viewing Monet's "Haystack", Kandinsky felt confused yet overwhelmed with the possibility of seeing more than the obvious impression viewed to anyone. I think... he FELT the colors.

He wrote of the experience:

"That it was a haystack the catalogue informed me. I could not recognize it. This non-recognization was painful to me. I considered that the painter had no right to paint indistinctly. I dully felt that the object of the painting was missing. And I noticed with surprise and confusion that the picture not only gripped me, but impressed itself ineradicably on my memory. Painting took on a fairy-tale power and splendor."

Kandindky experimented with colors and moods, before he reached a style of abstract, that took in the 'feelings', of the colors, he chose to fill his brush with. In art school he learned theory, but in life, he learned how to express those colors that thrived within his psyche.

Painting becomes an extension of the artist, when done well. That is, to me, what art is all about, feeling the breath of an artist because they chose to admit to feelings and then released those passions onto a canvas, a song,a piece of stone... whatever.

My muse is music and the neighbors hate me for it. Kandinsky would have been a good neighbor though, because he understood the value of music within the realm of the spiritual artist. Spiritual defined is; relating to; affecting the human spirit or soul as opposed to material or physical things. Kandinsky at times used musical terms regarding his works, calling some of his most spontaneous paintings "improvisations", and gave explanation to more elaborated works calling them "compositions".

"Concerning the Spiritual in Art" is a book originally published in 1911, by Wassily Kandinsky. Every artist and/or lover of the arts, should make sure this powerful book is a part of their library.

Read some quotes by Kandinsky.

Read them... then feel them.

"Color is the key. The eye is the hammer. The soul is the piano with its many chords. The artist is the hand that, by touching this or that key, sets the soul vibrating automatically."

"The more frightening the world becomes ... the more art becomes abstract."

"Of all the arts, abstract painting is the most difficult. It demands that you know how to draw well, that you have a heightened sensitivity for composition and for colors, and that you be a true poet. This last is essential."

"All methods are sacred if they are internally necessary. All methods are sins if they are not justified by internal necessity."

"Each period of a civilization creates an art that is specific in it and which we will never see reborn. To try and revive the principles of art of past centuries can lead only to the production of stillborn works."

"The artist is not a 'Sunday child' for whom everything immediately succeeds. He does not have the right to live without duty. The task that is assigned to him is painful, it is a heavy cross for him to bear."

These words... these spiritual words by Kandinsky, go beyond art. They offer a bridge to your imagination, in whatever creative form you choose to express it in. I encourage you to 'feel color'. As abstract as this sounds, you can even feel color within the song of a bird that visits you in the early morning, that one voice you often listen for? Hear it and take in the colors of the day. You can feel the spiritual in art in ways you had not realized before, just try it.

Take these emotions home to your heart, embrace them and let them fly in some artistic way in your life. It is just that easy and just that hard.

"Clowns Wearing Red Painted Smiles - Still Sorting Things Out"

It has been in those alone times,
when the sun has met my skin,
refreshed my heart,
with its well mannered glow,
that I have felt my own worth.

The moon has been a friend
and foe.
I dare not decipher which,
because in every prism,
there are too many mysteries to know.
I dare not let that define me.

Late at night,
when I wake up,
I try to feel my being,
know my own breath,
lest I get lost,
in all those blinding concerns,
again,
that I cannot seem to cure.
No, I cannot cure me.

Pages and pages,
lines of text,
I write to bless my own soul,
and oh...
I get lost all over,
again,
reflecting.

What agendas I explore?
I fold up in little pieces,
rip them up when I feel empty,
lick up tears,
swallow too hard,
pull my own hair,
close my eyes,
hoping later...
I will forgive me.

Who wants to prop up sad clowns?
It's scary.
I cannot know their motives.

Later on in the day,
I will paint white on me,
smear on a bright red smile,
feel empty,
maybe hopeless,
alone,
again.

Ahh sun!
Where the heck are you?
Sorry for my neglect.
I forgot about worshipping stars,
covered over for now,
by your bloody light.
Cover my eyes,
lest I become blinded
or much worse...
accepting.

Touch my skin then
will you?
Remind me about later,
later when I am hearing me breathe?

stars out,

"Fairies Along the Way - I Wanted to Capture Them and Make Them Mine"

Fairies along the way
I heard their trembling
beautiful goddesses.

I spied those angelic beings
whimsical angel drawings
within a flower formed from music.
I wanted to capture them
embrace their souls
make them mine.
So I slipped into their light
late at night
when I hoped they would be sleeping.

There within a petal
in an art fantasy space
alas
I awakened a tender soul
gentle despite my intrusion.
"I WANT' you!
I want you because I need magic
and because you feel things deeply
that you will explain please."

Lovely little star of mine
stood as tall as she could
rubbing her eyes
leaning in with her ears
and whispered with the scent of a white orchid,

"I may not be all you think
I make mistakes.
I am guessing
yes I think
there is a difference between you and me
it does not include our size
our wings or lack of them
it is that one holds out for hope
one forgives her steps
one of us is human
and it is not you."

Glass is the current medium that fuels my creative passion. My interest in glass began when I spent several years working at The Peltier Glass Company in Ottawa, Illinois, U.S.A. There I learned about the versatility and creative potential that glass has to offer. The possibilities are practically limitless. My abstract work in glass is an improvisation in which I seek form and emotion. I want the work to appear to "come alive." I think of it as the transfer of my life energy into the glass. Bjorn Eriksen is a mature artist, born in 1957. At the age of seven he was fascinated by Picasso's Guernica, in which the spirit shaped as a shaken and sad young person with a candle in his hand, together with a terrified, wounded horse, sees how a brutal bull, symbolizing the dominating oppressing powers of our time, has slain the future formed as a child. As a result, the mother cries out her sorrow and anger to the bull's face. The horse is Pegasus of the art and Eriksen has vanished into it and he has never returned. Can you stand beside your time? Yes! You can. You can be neutral. But then, how can you make anything but decorative and abstract geometric art. There is enough of this. But Eriksen has also sensed something: it is about holding on to the light and not give up on reality - though it is tough. The man who has fought the bull on the back of Pegasus is surely lying dead on the ground but with a little flower in his hand. He succeeded in making his art. How does Eriksen's flower look like? He paints in an expressive style that makes a strong impact. It consists of lonely faces. No wonder. Yet they deny to give up. Some hide behind masks. It is difficult to reveal yourself. One is looking to the sky saying "I don't care". But that is not enough for most of his faces.

Through the years artists have painted their interpretations of everyday objects, subjects, and countless landscapes by using recognizable shapes and forms to relay their messages. Vincent Van Gogh’s landscapes are truly original and so are Monet’s; each of which have there own distinctive personality, characteristics and purpose. However, one thing has always remained the same regardless of the artist, the use of forms and shapes to create their objects. Some have chosen to abstract their shapes, but the artist is still using recognizable shapes to some degree, to represent a specific image. Status quo.

Most people look at art for something they can recognize and the artist usually abides by painting something familiar to capture the interest of the viewer. A bright summer day for example is painted with a blue sky and round yellow sun. We are all familiar with these shapes and compositions so the artist has left us with just that – a bright summer day, painting. Status quo.

Can the viewer experience this same bright summer day if all recognizable shapes, forms and compositions are left out of the painting? More importantly can an artist represent a specific place or object without the use of form – even if abstracted?

This is my place in art. I have chosen to remove all forms and recognizable shapes as well as traditional tools (paint brushes) from my compositions and create a sense of place or mood and even imagery through the use of color. Freedom.

Animated Faery Pictures Inside My Atrium- Protected by Fantasy Art Warrior Women

Animated fairy pictures
I thought I'd lost them
but there within the pages of my notebook
they are protected
still
by fantasy art warrior women.
I long to know their resilience.

Chinese floral prints
origami folding instructions
flower fairies garden ornaments
kept safely here inside my notebook.
Love poems written to the voice of creativity.
I seek a solace.
I seek a hidden world
once bequeathed inside sweet poems.
I am fairies in art
that got lost in obituary searches.
I somehow know I am not there
yet
so pack up your goddess post.
There will always be ways to end a relationship
this is not that story.

Plant anew
refresh my table
fresh flowers are all lined up
unaware they will soon be picked
Chinese floral prints
despite all those vacant stares.

Heartache bestowed
some self inflicted by way of postponing beauty
beautiful things
that have always been within reach
yet neglected like my baby roses.

These things
sad days
that become a way of life
objections to circumstances
screams that have gone out
denials
embraces eluding to hope
I am defined by what I now accept as normal.
Normal to me.
Still despite the unfolded sheets of paper
knowing I hold clear instructions.
My fantasy art warrior women declined to defend the fort
till now.

Days like this I look out on to the atrium
small pagoda standing in a pretend forest
Japanese intrigue.
I pause in circumstance
and then I live there
beneath the mounds of moss and ferns.
Bonsai's tended with care
I am covered by their illusions of peace.

Obituary searches in the public square
sweet poems attached to someone's marker
animated faery pictures
still melted on my sidewalk.
I will walk there tomorrow
there to find art work in a butterfly garden.

There in a landscape I have known
is a tree
I did once discover a little painting
resting in its arms.
I left it there
with a tiny notebook and a pencil
inside a plastic bag
lest someone choose to lend comment
or perhaps a critique.
Yet I fretted about the critique
the painting's author unknown
it was more about the sentiment
just like the world inside my atrium.

Chinese floral prints
I wear them
I am a fantasy art woman
I fold up pieces of paper
origami folding instructions
I scribble messages
I keep my heart safe there.
I know a story well
fantasy art warrior women
placed a stone inside my pillow
lest I find my name is some obscure obituary search.

Facts About Picasso Tell Us He Was Obsessed- You Too? So then the question is, "How To Interpret Your Dream Of Passion & Creativity Too!"

Facts about Picasso tell us he was obsessed, he lived art. He LIVED art as do most artists who are successful. Dream interpretation, a somewhat stylistic representation of a creative work or dramatic role that tells who we are. We all hope for a passion don't we? Don't you love the idea of being so obsessed with something that you cannot get it out of your mind... that you MUST do it?! When artists of anything are stumped as to what to create, be it painting, or writing, whatever, they long for that feeling as artists for inspiration to return and become a presence. Something in them hopes to fill a need for getting their expression out there, be it pen to paper or fine art reproductions like Andy Warhol.

Pop art used to elude me.. now I think it beacons me! I think I need to have some fun and be playful like Keith Haring. Warhol, Lichenstein, Basquiat. Any artist with a fever for expression keeps in mind that abstract is something from the heart. Chagal painting his dreams, dream interpretation all over his canvases; Keith Haring creating his fun sculptures, Lichenstein with his comic strips gone big... I want to have that fever!

These artists were also caught up in the frenzy of promotion. Bad? Does that lessen the arts quality? Is there also an art to promotion? Just ask Warhol. Isn't that what is done all over the internet with art? Warhol was genius! He would have LOVED to have had internet access.

Passion for art does not necessarily mean drama, it is an expression from the heart that is projected from the soul. The soul of many gives us all kinds of expressions, drama in goth and dragon art, magic in fantasy fairies and goddess art, beauty in the old masters technique; playfulness in pop art, obsession often found in abstract. Keith Haring did some very exciting work and he did it in a fever... one that many artists hope to possess. I do!

The Story of the Week Positive Thinking? Eeek-This Week I am Undone!

The story of the week positive thinking?
I am undone.
Positive thinking hypnosis cds?
It feels ridiculous at the moment.
Yet, where do I purchase them? lol

I can't.
This week I am undone.

I am in fact human
daunted by circumstances that arise.
Today? For me at this second?
I am undone.

Circumstances, oh my
let me react OK?
I am not a robot
or something that can be programmed.

Let me vent at times!

I feel like gum under your shoe
I feel like a child asking for water
I feel like I am a mistake
I feel too much and don't want that pounding.
Take it back?
I wish I could.

exposed
that now pathetic openness.

and replace my now bleeding colors.

People pass by the homeless everyday
they walk past them
pretend not to see them
hope they will forget them.
And I?
I do too.

I have abused my own being
not protected that child
the one I thought was on her way to well?

I am sadder than no sky
I am blinder than no hope
I am not able to call on anyone
but me.

In the end it is me alone.
I will recover.
Mistakes eventually become distant
learning sets in
abuse to oneself
or created by others
become like well meaning storm clouds.

Eventually.

You can ignore me
step on my blindfold
yet I will recover
I will arise I assure you.
I will not fold up napkins that don't belong to me.
I will not play with paper dolls that have no vIsion
those ones without the tabs.
They cannot maintain their belongings
nor prepare for the mad and misplaced
never adept in preparation.

Artist's Statement About New Series I am doing for Monkdogz Urban Art:

Passion has a sense of violence about it, it is strong and it survives aggression. I do not paint passive art.. I paint passion. Within passion one finds a boldness full of enticing ambitions to grasp on to, that piece of your heart that presses you to go past the mark of a bystander, the spot you may have been told to stay put on. No, it is not possible to feel passive when standing next to passion. I don't paint landscapes to hang above someone's couch, paintings meant to be a resting place for the mind? I paint feelings that one cannot just walk past. I hope to stir up emotions within the viewer. It is not my goal to feel nothing but a sunny day or peacefulness, shiny trinkets that rest on walls that can be walked away from. I paint women who feel something. Strength, sexuality, pain, power, a force of intensity, emotional qualities that generate a reaction. I don't paint the sky, I paint the dominance of the wind that caused it to be felt on ones skin, in the form of a woman. I pick up my brush or clay between my fingers and consider a certain belligerence, an attitude of confidence that meets the power I need to form an energy outside myself and I welcome it in. I paint or sculpt until I hear them breathing and their breath becomes my own.

1.) How do you feel when you tell non-artists that you are an artist.
What are some of the responses you get?

It depends on where their creativity scale is. Some people live with no art on their walls at all, those people do not understand art at all or they would want it around them.

If they care about art then obviously we have a base from which to understand one another.

2.) What is your favorite reaction to your work?

A connection with passion, understanding of the inner soul and its longing to be heard. It is those people I love hearing from.

Most deflating?

Dismissal. Someone who walks into a room filled to the brink with my art leaving no comment as if the room were blank.

3.) As an artist what do you feel the Internet has done for you
(positive/negative)?

20K - 30K entries on google, depending on the day. It is a great networking tool.

I spend way too much time on it when I should be painting or sculpting. It is so darn addictive.

4.) If I asked you to tell me one place to go and one thing to do there,
where and what would you suggest?

I used to walk along the Silver Strand in Imperial Beach, CA. I drew giant faces of women on the sand and danced around and sang to the top of my lungs, like the fairy I imagined me to be. I created a dragon out of drift wood who one day took flight. It is not that I would suggest going to the Silver Strand, it is that I would suggest to go to that spot of inhibition and fly there.

5.) When are you most creative and why do you think this is? E

The mornings are good for me. I am very sensitive to what the moon is doing too, it creates havoc or bliss. Creativity comes in waves. I paint for a couple of weeks non stop in a frenzy and then recover... but.. I still paint even after the bliss of it has left me. What brings these tangents on is unclear to me. It just comes over me.

6.) Who are you most inspired by; another artist, relative, pet?

Artists who show passion. I cannot stand art that is meant to cause the viewer to feel calm and think nothing. Why bother?

7.) Do you visualize your Art before creating?

Sometimes.. to a certain extent. Not always.

Do you know what it will
look like before you begin? What's your process?

It varies. Right now I am working on a series of self portraits/self discovery. It is an erotica series. I am taking tons of photos, soul searching, writing, trying to feel those spots of me that I used to shun.

8.) Did you choose Art or did Art choose you?

I have posted another interview at the bottom that speaks to this.

9.) Any advice for a new artist contemplating dedicating their life to Art?

I believe that desire is talent and the rest is practice, so get to work.. no excuses.

10.) Do you find yourself more attracted to work that is not like your own,
or work that has similarities to yours?

I am attracted to passionate work as I mentioned b4, so I seek that out for stimulation in music, photography, movies.. whatever.

11.) Which do you think is smarter for an emerging artist: pricing work
affordably to make it more accessible, or pricing work high, to make it more
precious?

Put yourself into perspective. Emerging artists always seem to price their work too high. I think this is because they are really not prepared to let go of it. Yet it irritates the hell out of me to see anyone sell their work for pennies, you also need to respect yourself.

12.) Do you aspire for your work to meet a need and, if so, do you have a
name for that need?

I am never sure if I hate it or love it with every fiber in me. It is a torture when not going well and haunts me to a fault.. I think of nothing else if I am not doing well and nothing else if I am. Its exhausting.

13.) Is there a separation between your "normal" life and your work. If so,
how do you manage to keep each in its place?

I don't.. it is everything so it touches everything. I am obsessed.

14.) Do you predetermine meaning in your work?

I am with this new series.

and/or, after you complete a
piece of art, do you feel the meaning needs justification/explanation?

I don't feel it needs anything at all to explain itself.. if people get it, they get it. If people don't get it then I accept the fact that we just don't connect.

I write this above and yet I have explained myself to the hilt on my website for my "In Search of Klimt" Series. I did that because content/text is what google is looking for my SEO and because I enjoy writing. I also feel that by writing about my art I understand myself more.

A dichotomy I know.

15.) Do you think that the notion of an artist's "style" is fabricated to
boost sales and marketability?

It depends on the artist of course. I do both. I live in Hawaii so I paint some stuff for tourists. Is it me? No, not all.

I am also represented in New York by Monkdogz Urban Art, which is much more edgy. I am working together with the gallery owner to push myself past what I have done before.. very exciting. That art would not do well in Hawaii... I don't even think I could find a gallery to hang it in Hawaii.

Are artists then forced to limit their body
of work to specific content or media in an effort to facilitate easy
recognition?

It depends on what an artist wants or is satisfied with. You can be a big fish in a little pond.. be recognized in Hawaii, which I do strive for because of $$$.

Or

You can try to make it in the big world, which is often like wanting to be a movie star. I confess I want that with every part of my being.
I want to strive towards excellence, self discovery even though I don't believe that either can ever be found. I believe that the very second you think you have arrived you are indeed finished.

16.) What causes artistic blocks? What do you do to solve them?

Laziness. I have a 20 year background in production pottery. Production pottery is a craft not an art but it taught me that no matter how you feel, you still do art anyway. No excuses.

17.) What question do you hate being constantly asked about your work?

How long did this take you to do?

18.) What helps create a suitable environment for making art (aside from
tools)?

I think people get caught up in that. They don't paint or whatever because their surroundings are too small or they have kids or whatever. I have painted in my kitchen when it was not big enough to turn around in. I have painted with children and cats running through my paints. It goes back to making excuses. If you want to do art.. truly? You will and it will not matter how small or right your environment is. With that said, I am painting in my garage right now because I am so messy. I blast the music, sing, and try to free myself to let the dance of creating art happen.

19.) How willing are you to remove yourself from your work?

I'm not.

20.) Do you ever forget or deliberately ignore why you make art? If so,
briefly describe the last time you realized you had forgotten or were
ignoring why you make art. What did it take for you to return to your core
motivation?

I just can't relate to this question. Art is like breathing to me.

21.) How has your art contributed to society?

I have no idea.. I can't be the judge of that.

22.) Do you think it's important that art gives something to society?

No. This doesn't mean though that I don't dream of being an 'Art Star', but I am not sure that has anything to do with 'contributing to society'. If you want to contribute to society.. what society exactly? There are so many factions, it feels impossible to please them. If I think that way I will find myself only painting fluff I think.

23.) What exhibit that you have seen within the last year has most
influenced you? Why?

Boy... I don't see much in Hawaii. It is all about tourists here. The most inspiration I find is online at Monkdogz with fellow artists there or on My Space as funny as that sounds. There are some amazing artists posting on My Space.

24.) Does getting paid for your artwork embarrass you? If so, why? If not,
why not?

Gads.. I have to get paid or I won't eat!

25.) Do you feel an art object's power is diminished or changed by having
assistants actually do the physical production? Explain.

Yes.. absolutely. If you have a giclee that is produced by a printer.. is the life of the artist somehow diminished? Artists enhance their work to add just a touch of life back to them but it is insignificant really, the work cannot breathe because it was tampered with by someone else. I used to work for an Italian sculptor. He signed his name to all my work.. customary of course.. but the arts presence belonged to me.

I owned and operated my own souvenir pottery business. I had eight contracted workers and one full time shipper. Products were created, hand sculpt, wheel thrown and personalized to meet each clients specific needs. My company shipped to most National Parks, Disney World, J C Penny and over 1000 specialty shops all over the US. I completely understand deadlines. Most souvenirs are purchased for summer sales with a small window for re-orders. After 20 years in the souvenir business I decided to focus on my painting and sculpting.

Artist Statement:

I began my career at four years old, in the back seat of my parents car, as they traveled the countryside. I have been exhilarated and tormented by art ever since. I wake up in the morning and go to bed at night thinking about it.
I paint and sculpt women primarily; in their daily lives, in lives they might be afraid of, and in lives they wish they had. My goal has always remained the same; to hear them breathing and to know the passion I feel in my soul is met by theirs.

So I sing:
"Hold me close dear angel,
muster up a little tune,
and rock me like a serpent,
that rises to the moon."

In every single one of my paintings my objective is to 'know them' . To let each one reveal their own vision or message. I am often astounded as their presence unfolds & I am met with who they are. I then realize that who 'they' are, defines me as well. My hope is that my paintings & sculptures relate to you, their audience & that they give you the message you need for your own heart and soul.

The Questions:

1. When was the first time that you remember realizing that you are a creative person?

When I was around 4 years old. My parents drove from State to State discovering America or maybe just chasing rainbows. I sat in the back seat of the car drawing, singing and looking out the window, imagining. I didn't speak one single word until I was over two. My Dad always said it was because I had nothing to say. Debatable of course. I may have been somewhat Autistic. As I got older and went to school, I was put in the back of the room often with my back towards the class. Another teacher put me in a dark closet. I was always being told to stop daydreaming.

2. When did you know that this was what you wanted to do with your life?

I never understood it could be an option to do art for my life until I was out of high school. I was never encouraged in that direction and so I guess I just thought it was something to do alone in my room.

How did you get started?

I started selling paintings to neighbors and stuff when I was around 18. It still was not taken seriously.. just something I could do to contribute to the grocery bill. From there I developed a wholesale pottery business with my x husband. We took a 6 week class on pottery in Adult Ed, saved up money for a kiln and moved to the mountains. It advanced to selling to most National Parks, Disney World, JC Penny's and 1000+ mom and pop stores. We had reps all over the US and had 8 contracted workers. That was 'production pottery' though,, and even though it was all wheel thrown and hand sculpt, I am not sure that I consider that to be an art. It was an art remaining sane thought! I sculpted 120-160 faces a day on beer steins, while my x threw a stein every 40 seconds. I must say too that I hated it from the first day, but continued to do that for 20 years. I Painted and did sculptures all the while too. We also self published booklets that went with musical tapes to enhance stories we had written.

I later left my x and married my HS Sweetheart. I never make two of anything now, unless it is a giclee or print or something that I don't have to duplicate myself. It has been within these past 12 years that I have developed myself as an artist. Ups and downs along the way.

3. What traits, if any, do you think that creative people have as compared to people who are not creative?

Sensitivity. I tell people all the time that desire is talent and the rest is practice. I don't believe in the notion that people cannot draw a strait line. They were never taught how, that's all. I feel that if someone 'wishes' they were an artist? They are. So they better get to work on their dream.

4. Do believe that your training has influenced what you create?

I am self taught. I think anything we need to know is in books or practice. I have taken some sculpture classes though. I do feel that by being self taught I have found my way to my style, where with someone's outside influence I may never have. I paint and sculpt by instinct, not rules. I am not sure that you can teach the emotion that it takes to 'see' and implement, what it would take to bring breath to a painting or sculpture. It all goes back to desire.. and an inner voice.

5. Have you ever felt that your personal expectations have limited your creativity?
If so, how have you dealt with this?

Oh sure If you try to please just one person.. maybe you will be successful.. maybe. But if you go beyond that you will never do it. I am easily influenced, so I have to be careful who I ask, what of. I want to sell and be famous.. I think everybody does. As I go to my canvas I am in turmoil about who to please and what will benefit my career. Sometimes that has to be considered to make grocery money, so I paint what I need to. Other times I tell myself that I need to reach inside.. pull out that nebulous insight and slather that on the canvas instead. The latter is the only way to get better as an artist I feel. It is a real battle. I am not sure I have solved it either.

6. Have other people supported or inspired you? Please explain.

Not my parents. I think they did not consider me to be all that bright, because even as I grew older, I didn't talk all that much. When I was in High School I painted or drew or whatever.. only women. When I would ask my teacher if I could have some materials, he would ask me what I was going to draw, etc. "A girl!" I would always say. He would kind of frown at me then reluctantly give me what I asked for. I used to do pastel with these girls without tops on and only suspenders.. that would drive him crazy. One day he told me that there were some complaints from the office so I could not do that anymore.

It was not until I was around 18 when I started selling my oil paintings for $10-20. that I realized that I had talent. My x was supportive as long as I painted mountain scenes.. stuff like that. UG!

I would say that the most supportive person has been my husband Denny. He has sacrificed, encouraged, done battle when I wanted to give up and been my biggest cheering section.

7. How have you dealt with any criticism you have gotten because of your creative endeavors?

With inside criticism I tend to retreat and cry. It takes me awhile to recover and then I pick myself back up again and move forward. For me? Art is all there is, so it is a lot like making up with a boyfriend after a fight.

With other people it depends on who they are. If they have clout or know what they are talking about they can take me to my knees. If not? Screw em.

8. Do you ever feel that you have to censor your creativity because you don't want to offend anyone?

Oh gads.. yes! Big problem in American especially. I am working on an erotica series now because my gallery in New York that represents me, Monkdogz Urban Art, is going to do a show on it. They have guts and of course that is New York. I have done several paintings of erotica prior to that but most galleries want fluff and freak out with even a nipple..

9. Do you do anything special to get your "creative juices" flowing? Please explain.

Music.. that is huge. I sing my lungs out.. the louder the better. My husband always encourages me to meditate, even light candles.. but I tend to just plunge in. I think about art all of the time, so I figure that is enough meditation to get me there. When I get frustrated I tend to uncork a bottle of champagne or wine from time to time. People might not agree with me, say what they will, it works for me. I also totally mess up the canvas to start out.. everything from that point is an improvement.

10. Does your work convey a specific emotion or message?

My efforts are to convey passion. I paint and sculpt people, mostly women so emotions are a key element.

My newest Artist's Statement:

Passion has a sense of violence about it, it is strong and it survives aggression. I do not paint passive art.. I paint passion. Within passion one finds a boldness full of enticing ambitions to grasp on to, that piece of your heart that presses you to go past the mark of a bystander, the spot you may have been told to stay put on. No, it is not possible to feel passive when standing next to passion. I don't paint landscapes to hang above someone's couch, paintings meant to be a resting place for the mind? I paint feelings that one cannot just walk past. I hope to stir up emotions within the viewer. It is not my goal to feel nothing but a sunny day or peacefulness, shiny trinkets that rest on walls that can be walked away from. I paint women who feel something. Strength, sexuality, pain, power, a force of intensity, emotional qualities that generate a reaction. I don't paint the sky, I paint the dominance of the wind that caused it to be felt on ones skin, in the form of a woman. I pick up my brush or clay between my fingers and consider a certain belligerence, an attitude of confidence that meets the power I need to form an energy outside myself and I welcome it in. I paint or sculpt until I hear them breathing and their breath becomes my own.

11. If you could be any object, what would you be? Why?

I would go back and be that little girl in the back seat of her parents car. I consider her to be an object. I would reassure her that someday she would find her way.

12. What are your words of wisdom for someone starting out in your field?

It goes back to what I said in the beginning.. if you want to be an artist? YOU ARE! Desire is talent and the rest is practice. Believe in yourself.

Background:
I owned and operated my own souvenir pottery business. I had eight contracted workers and one full time shipper. Products were created, hand sculpt, wheel thrown and personalized to meet each clients specific needs. My company shipped to most National Parks, Disney World, J C Penny and over 1000 specialty shops all over the US. I completely understand deadlines. Most souvenirs are purchased for summer sales with a small window for re-orders. After 20 years in the souvenir business I decided to focus on my painting and sculpting. I then moved to Kauai.

I also do sculpture. I have illustrated for Hay House Inc.,"Women Who Do Too Much" CARDS taken from Anne Wilson Schaef's book "Meditations for Women Who Do Too Much". I also illustrated for Neil Davidson, who was considered for the Pulitzer Prize in feature writing, and several other publications.
I am prolific in Trompe l'oeil, faux finishes, metal forging, sculpture, clay, silk painting, cement, murals, portraiture, glass etching, graphites, watercolors, illustration, and I am self assured enough to know, that I am able to tackle any new medium that comes along.
I am good with people. I understand the concept 'The customer is always right' and handle myself accordingly when and if necessary.
I am a team player who knows the importance of focusing on the final product. I am easy to work with and will always respond to each
job in a cheerful and professional manner.

Artist Statement:

I began my career at four years old, in the back seat of my parents car, as they traveled the countryside. I have been exhilarated and tormented by art ever since. I wake up in the morning and go to bed at night thinking about it.
I paint and sculpt women primarily; in their daily lives, in lives they might be afraid of, and in lives they wish they had. My goal has always remained the same; to hear them breathing and to know the passion I feel in my soul is met by theirs.

So I sing:
"Hold me close dear angel,
muster up a little tune,
and rock me like a serpent,
that rises to the moon."

In every single one of my paintings my objective is to 'know them' . To let each one reveal their own vision or message. I am often astounded as their presence unfolds & I am met with who they are. I then realize that who 'they' are, defines me as well. My hope is that my paintings & sculptures relate to you, their audience & that they give you the message you need for your own heart and soul.

Statement:

The paintings of Christian Möller exert an exotic attraction. Developed merely in black and white tones on large canvasses, the intense, attenuated and pushed movements draw the viewers attention into an impenetrable thicket of compact and transparent forms. They remain fragments rendered two dimensional, however they are in every section modelled multi-layered colourspaces. In no place do these brushstrokes evoke peace and resignation or inner balance in the circling, directed, elliptical or linear forms. More than that, the restlessness and shorthanded notation of colours, which is an intense series of signs and letters scribbled in extreme excitement comparable to a letter or entry in a diary and forming both a unity during the more distant process of reading as well as a readable message, is in danger of drowning on the canvass in a chaos of pictorial signs and endless spaces. Given over to the pull of cosmic breadth in the boundless universe, which is incomprehensible to human conception, single formed shapes reappear as unexpectedly out of the abyss as they disappeared.

The paintings of Christian Möller generate their inner tension in this border area between the surface of the canvass, which reveals the traces of the set colours, and the pictorial depth of colour modulation in endless ratios of black and white tones in all thinkable values of grey to dark black to brightly sparkling flashes of white light. They invite looking. They attract and allure the observer to be reluctantly involved in the dramatic event. Even when he, with aversion and fear of the unknown of such worlds which do not promise beauty, or enjoyment of the aesthetic but probably dread and abysses, tries to defend himself against these, and in trying to resist, then still only looks into himself. The images guide the observer, once submerged inside these dim labyrinth spaces, left alone yet directed by the artist, as Vergil by Dante in the "Divine Comedy", to the world of the inferno as well as to happiness, where life is played out. The longer one stays in these broad painted spaces and moves through them, the richer and more surprising the discoveries of those images which start to come up in our fantasy, occupying our thinking recome. These are not the images which obsessed Christian Möller when he departed on his artistic incarnations, but our own images, which we discovered inside of us........

I ask myself a lot after finishing a painting or sculpture, "How did I do that, was that me? "How can I get back to that creative, artistic space again?"

Finding Creativity- Not Exactly Free Coloring Pages Fairies and Dragons-I Need Music!

I ask myself a lot after finishing a painting or sculpture, "How did I do that, was that me?

Next I think to myself, "How can I get back to that creative, artistic space again?"

It feels so elusive sometimes. I try to designate communications of fantasy or some inner connection back to that space, that nebulous space. I set precedent communications to that world that seems so mystical and try to recover what I had when I was in that trance like mode of artistic splendor.

I find creativity because of the desire to know it, not by reading tarot cards or dancing with the devil. Hummm, well maybe just a little.
Smile.

How I get to that space? By 'rescuing' my day and restoring my own artistic splendor.

I look for music, sometimes music without lyrics, but more often music that has lyrics I can sing to. I DO sing! I sing and feel the mood of the singer, then make it my own. I let my spirit feel the freedom it longs to feel. I stop myself from following rules or creating new ones. Oh! Those pesty rules that say, bind up the whole process, make the right lines, add only proper colors... eew! Those rules only cause me to create renderings that might be acceptable to those conservative Kinkade fans, who of course do not consider them anything but bliss, but to me a place that feels stagnate.

Take out that emotional palette and fill it with every color possible. Be it abstract art, pop art, Free coloring pages fairies and dragons, goddess women, dear little pixies fairies, elves colouring pictures or elves in folklore and myths, mythical fairies fill a my mind. Fantasy is as real as you decide it can be.

I try to write a lot about my daydreams and things of beauty that inspire me. How do I get to that creative, artistic space? It still escapes me fully, but the more I write about it, the more I sing and paint and sculpt and think and dream, it comes to me. I must have it lest I disappear.

I truly believe that we can rescue our own selves from a host of sadness by tapping into that creative space.

I think as an artist one must constantly designate communications of self preservation to those fields of longed for elusive spaces, lest they fall into deep depression.

ahh ha.. isn't that so cute sounding? Two new Squidoo's? TOO CUTE!

Anyway... I have two new ones to add to my other 5.

If you have not tried Squidoo, you should check them out. They are easy to set up and can actually bring in a couple of dollars. I have made a bit over $20. so far. I know that is not huge but I think it is better than nothing, right?

Here are my two new ones. One is in fact rated XXX .. but!.. it is not that bad. I have a couple of UTubes from "9 1/2 Weeks" in it and it is about how to help a woman feel sexy from a woman's perspective. It's really tame.

My other one is about spun glass collectible figurines. I created it because I found some good keywords that I wanted to use. It is a tad hokey, I must confess. I do think though that those guys with the flame and glass sticks who create little creatures and ornaments are darn interesting though.

Jesus Healing Sick & the Internet-Critical Thinking + Creative Writing + Active Reading

Where is that image of Jesus healing the sick?

I gotta say, I am just AMAZED by what people write on social networking websites. They tell ALL! I am a pretty open person and sometimes worry that I tell too much, too much of my own spirituality information. But you know what? Not in comparison to many. It is pretty stunning isn't it?

A little critical thinking + creative writing + active reading, could go a long way here.

I saw on My Space where a woman wrote about losing a custody battle and CPS stepping in. I saw another where a wife had left, gone 'wild' as the author put it, and left her with the grandkids and her son as a permanent house guest. There was another one where the man said his wife had 'lost her mind' and he was now raising their child alone.

All of these things are tragic, of course they are! But, what is possessing people to post their trials and tribulations on the internet?

I think maybe one thing is because people have lost sight of the fact that they are venting on a public forum. They somehow consider the internet and their personal blogs to be a place for journal writing and that only soft and gentle readers will find them.

I wrote back to person who's troubles seemed too much for them. I feared for their safety! They seemed suicidal. What does one do with something like that? Here is a person you find over the internet who is so distraught they feel their only way of getting it out is over the internet. They feel alone it seems. How does one NOT write back? Yet how does one take on the trials and tribulations of the whole of the internet that cries out for help? HUGE.. it is just a sad and pitiful tale. Like I said, where is Jesus and that picture of him healing the sick? or gads it seems like there is enough spiritual information out there to fill all the oceans on the planet.

Humm, what can people be thinking?

I'll tell you one thing, it has made me pull back even more. I don't want to be part of that club, ya know? I am finding myself doing more critical thinking + creative writing + active reading, and then meditating on it all. Jesus said the sick and broken hearted will always exist, always be with us. I don't want to be hard hearted toward them, I just want to strive more not to be one of them. You too?

"Paper Toys"

Be careful what you step on
It might just be my heart
Some wounds have no recovery
no place from which to start.

The box, packed with tiny ribbons
you made sure they did not get lost.
You flatter me...
to think that much of me
to handle them with such care.

I thank you for the cobwebs
and the way that they were groomed.
I know I should be grateful
that someone heard the loon.

I was greeted by a pattern
set in place so many days ago
I tried to reconstruct my thoughts
and make them not my home.
I stand erect and look from side to side
It seems I've made a prisoner of my thoughts
sad day of untidy means and sighs.

I thank you for the cobwebs though.
Through all the rubble
that may have gone unnoticed
and yet...
It's not as if you could not possibly understand
what to me
was so obviously bemoaned.

I was a little girl
paper dolls in hand
Making paper do
what others
could not possibly understand.
I suppose I should close the box
vacant, without the ribbons
that seemed to have been tossed.
Scold my attitude
and measures of the loss.
I know I should be grateful
for the memories held fast
but oh...
all the beautiful colors
when clipped
could never last.

Your Air Bag will save you.

in a remote location.

5 A few notes about getting
into your car in a parking lot,
or parking garage:

A.) Be aware:
look around you,
look into your car,
at the passenger side floor ,
and in the back seat
B..) If you are parked next to a big van,
enter your car from the passenger door .
Most serial killers attack their victims
by pulling them into their vans
while the women are attempting
to get into their cars.
C..) Look at the car
parked on the driver's side
of your vehicle,
and the passenger side.
If a male is sitting alone
in the seat nearest your car,
you may want to walk back
into the mall, or work,
and get a guard/policeman
to walk you back out.
IT IS ALWAYS BETTER TO BE SAFE THAN SORRY. (And better paranoid than dead.)

6. ALWAYS
take the elevator
instead of the stairs.

(Stairwells are horrible places
to be alone
and the perfect crime spot.
This is especially true at NIGHT!)

7. If the predator has a gun
and you are not under his control,
ALWAYS RUN!
The predator will only hit you
(a running target)
4 in 100 times;
And even then,
it most likely
WILL NOT
be a vital organ.

Preferably !
in a zig -zag pattern!

8. As women,
we are always trying
to be sympathetic:

STOP !
It may get you raped,
or killed.
Ted Bundy,
the serial killer,
was a good-looking,
well educated man,
who ALWAYS played
on the sympathies
of unsuspecting women.
He walked with a cane,
or a limp,
and often asked
"for help"
into his vehicle
or with his vehicle,
which is when he abducted
his next victim.

that her friend heard
a crying baby on her porch
the night before last,
and she called the police
because it was late
and she thought it was weird.
The police told her

and she was worried
that it would crawl
to the street
and get run over.
The policeman said,
"We already have a unit on the way,
whatever you do,
DO NOT open the door."
He told her that they think
a serial killer
has a baby's cry recorded
and uses it to coax
women out of their homes
thinking that someone
dropped off a baby
He said they have not verified it,
but have had several calls
by women saying that
they hear baby's cries
outside their doors
when they're home alone
at night.

Grim Reaper Drawings and Childhood Mentors in the Doorway

He said she'd sing in the dark
grim reaper drawings
pasted in a notebook
hearing voices...
and I believed him.

I believed in her.

I pinned up her picture as my muse.
I played her music
even though there was no sound.

I held her picture
only for seconds at a time
because it seemed to be burning.

My blanket made of smoke
this reaper
to me the greater sacrifice
to you a cover from the dark.

Such a pitiful dress now
isn't it?
Bonds to wounds
too thin to be called healthy.

I stole their weapons once
grim reaper drawings
clowns of decent
jesters.
I captured what I thought was their goodness.
It was not of course
twas only a white horse arriving in the doorway
greeted by everyones laughter.

Don't sacrifice till you are sure of the outcome.
Don't make any pledges
just for now
OK?
It may not be hopeless
but at the very least
we will know enough to mark the trail.

I will not shy away from such tragedies
heartaches made informal
dismissed
no matter how poignant.
Such a woeful thing
being set on the shelf
in a room made empty.

Gather all the masks then
I will not hold it against you.
I will only wash the napkins as you use them.

This meal
this monster you seem to mentor
will post the earliest retreat
pin reminders on the wall
to hide the children in the closet.

Innocence being the easiest to defeat
hopefully someday
someone
will unwrap the colors
and let them out to feel the rain again.

I will line up all my little paintings
grim reaper drawings
set them in a row and wait.
I will hold a seance
despite a child's objection:
"I am not dead as yet
please keep my vigil sacred
do not swallow the key
lest someone drown
and forget from where I call."

the ribbons have unraveled

A hint of life discarded
you packed and sent away
tidy little sentiments
of warmer days

Break:
I suppose I could wash these clothes
and no one will ever know
Only you ... for the fragrance will be gone
But then there's all that silence left behind
miles of better dreams and saner songs
mingled with the scenes of loveless eyes

You stated in your Bio that you didn’t go to art school. Could you tell us how you developed your art skills and what formal or informal education you have found most useful?

From the time I could hold any thing in my hands, I was drawing, painting, building, creating. There are some pretty embarrassing diaper painting stories my family is all too happy to share.

The truth is, I wasn’t allowed to go to art school. My mother wanted me to have a solid and safe job. That’s what the perception was back then. It was accepted that a man could have an art career, but not me. “We” decided that I would go to nursing school.

Ironically, two years after graduating, I nursed my mother through a terminal cancer diagnosis. During which time she divulged that I had my first art exhibition at the DeYoung Museum in San Francisco, when I was 6. Apparently it was part of a children’s art project. I don’t have the painting but I do remember it’s name, “My friend Lisa.” I can only suppose this was her way of finally giving me the blessing to pursue what I love.

As far as education, formal or otherwise, I’ve dipped into a class here or there along the way. But it’s my computer and insatiable curiosity that keeps me developing skills; asking questions. The latest of which, “Is there a 12-step program for Google addicts?”

It seems I may have a problem.

You have said that you come from the school of hard knocks, could you tell us a little about this and how it has influenced your work?

Well, let’s see... The Reader’s Digest version of my first 25 years can be viewed in my latest work, “The Mommy’s Curse.” I grew up with what would now be diagnosed as a bi-polar mother. My childhood reads like a Stephen King or Clive Barker story. Just when I thought the worst was over, I married a very silly and great cartoonist. He passed away a year after we married. (Cardiac arrest, caught us all by surprise.)

The first 32 years of being me were pretty tough. I’ve had to rise up from the ashes a few times. What always remained was my core, my essence. That essence being an ability to create, and my warped sense of humor.

There was a choice, to be a victim of circumstance or to use this stuff. I chose to see life as material for the next art project. Humor is something that works for me. I find the humor or irony in everything. Even my first husband’s death. He was a cartoonist that died at Disneyland. Can you imagine? Ironic, and how the hell can I ever top THAT? He got the last laugh.

There’s pain. But pain is everywhere. It builds character, and that’s part of the curriculum from School of Hard Knocks. When you can put a spin on pain, your spin on it, you can take your power back. You can own it. Besides, when you lose your sense of humor, I think you’ve lost yourself. What’s that old adage? What doesn’t kill you, makes you stronger. Or better.

What kinds of images did you first start out with and what medium did you use?

In the beginning there was... What? Did you really expect me to say poo?

Okay, I’ll get serious. I painted and drew. I was a fantastic portrait artist as a teenager and developed a love for watercolor too. At that time I was painting landscapes, fantasy stuff (I was a huge fan of Tolkien) and images of whimsy, some psychedelic stuff -it was the 70s.

One could always expect a handcrafted card at holiday time or birthday time. Or a comic book with the year in review, as I saw it, recounting all the high points of family shenanigans. Some years were funnier than others.

What made you decide to pursue a career in commercial and graphic arts?

I’ve always been fascinated by advertising and it’s influence over culture. Even as a kid advertising sucked me in. I read Mad Magazine regularly, instead of doing my homework. That explains a lot, doesn’t it? I’m amazed at how we are shaped by it. Advertising, that is. Especially today in our political climate. Just look at the latest set of elections in California and you can see how advertising, not information, shapes our choices. It’s an amazing study.

I have to give credit, though, to my step-dad. At the time when mom was pressuring me to be a nurse, my step-dad --a very successful art director-- told me I was missing my calling. It was his support after my mom’s passing that gave me the confidence to move into commercial art.

This was in the mid-1980s, the computer was just starting to change the way we publish media, create art and communicate. My dad had the wisdom to tell me not to go to art school, but to learn the new computer media instead. He felt it would be quite a while before the schools caught up with what was going on in digital media. He was right.

I talked myself into a job at a newspaper with the largest in-house Macintosh publishing unit in the country. And my love affair with all things digital began.

During your career, who or what has given you the most inspiration?

Wow. Much has given me inspiration. My philosophical explorations inspire. The insanity of current events is inspiring. There’s so much material being made by these crazy people in high places. It’s important to say that inspiration isn’t always pretty.

But in the end it’s real people that inspire me more than anything. By real people I mean everyday people. I was watching a local PBS show a couple of weeks ago about a fellow who, in his late 40s enrolled, then graduated from art school and is now highly successful. I found THAT inspiring.

Your wit and humor definitely shows in your work, but tell us where you get your ideas and what influences these visual statements.

Oh this is where I’d love to give some obtuse art-speak answer, but I don’t know how.

If you look at the art alone, you can see that I’m influenced by many pop culture factors; Manga, Warhol, Lichtenstein, Mad Magazine, consumer product packaging, television commercials, the Sixties. Things like this.

I also spend a great deal of time listening. My husband would tell you that, right now, I’m lying. But I do spend a lot of my time listening for those little gems that I can translate into a visual. There’s a lot of material out there if you just take the time to simply listen.

The news is a great place for some of these gems. Remember when Rumsfeld said that he sometimes spends all day on his feet? This after we were informed of prisoners of war being forced to stand on a small wooden box for up to 48 hours at a stretch? This is crazy, insane stuff. “Hey get those guys at Abu Graib some Dr. Scholls!” Yeah, that must be Rummy’s secret. And yes, there’s a piece in the works.

Just listen and sooner or later, there it is, the next little gem.

What was your greatest success and biggest setback in your career as an artist?

There’s always something that distracts or looks like a set back. I don’t mind distractions, in life stuff happens. But I would say having to return to work a regular McJob to pay my mortgage is a set back. Straight gigs suck the life out of me. It’s like having a big fat mung monster perched on your head feeding on all your creative energy. It’s bad. Very bad. (Shudder!)

On the flip side, I haven’t yet had my greatest success. I did win an award recently for my Condi Rice piece. That was a very pleasant surprise. I’ve had many little wins. I know there’s much more to come and I’m looking forward to each and every one.

What do you enjoy most about being an artist?

The free wine at art openings. I’m joking. Well... Okay, I’m joking. I like two things. I like the fact that I can be the iconoclast that I am, without having to explain or apologize for being the me that I am. And I like it when I finish a piece. When it’s framed and on the wall. That’s what I like.

Q

What is your ideal working atmosphere?

I dream of having a studio of my own with a lot of space to make a big mess. But actually, I’m pretty darn happy sitting in my little home office with my laptop and Wacom tablet, my macaw on a chair next to me, cat at my feet. All of us singing along to some old punk or reggae tunes. As long as no people interrupt, I’m happy.

Do you believe that creativity and genius go hand in hand?

Yes. I also believe that we are all born creative and genius. Unfortunately, we get dumbed down to fit into a societal “norm.” Only to spend a great portion of our adult lives unravelling the crap we are force fed in the institutions (schools) and finding ourselves all over again. And they call me crazy.

What do you think about the commonly-held notion that creativity is linked to madness?

As much as I’d like everything to be fluffy bunnies, butterflies and rainbows, the truth is we live in a realm of paradox and duality. That alone is enough to drive a person mad. We all have some form of craziness or madness. Some obsession or control issue. It’s what allowed us to survive childhood. Some of us are just a little more mad than others. It’s a matter of degree.

Madness is what makes Van Gogh’s work so poignant. His palette is beautiful and haunting at the same time. Those strokes and colors are filled with obsession, pain, love, passion, self loathing. When I saw the Amsterdam exhibit here in Los Angeles, I cried and cried, knowing that if he weren’t so ill, we’d never see such wonderful work.

For me, the madness keeps me honest with my work. I suppose it is a Mad, Mad, Mad world. But I wouldn’t have it any other way.

How do you think or want other people to respond to your work?

Over all, I get a positive response to the work. Most folks get it and seem to like it. At least that’s what they are telling me. As long as they respond honestly, I’m happy. As long as they respond, I’m happy.

"Negotiations Between Artist and Gallery, Contracts Must Be Clear, Flattery Gets Ya Nowhere"

You have to put yourself in an artist's place. Here I am not knowing you or perhaps anything about the location. You contact me, like my art and want it. Cool, I appreciate the contact and compliment. Yet, if you are asking me to consign my work you become a voice over the phone or internet without credentials.

I had my work in a gallery in San Francisco on Union Square years ago. There was no contract and being a fledgling artist I did not ask for one. I was simply thrilled to be in a gallery in Union Square. There was a wonderful opening that I attended with all the other artists who had become part of the gallery. Wonderful food and wine were served and important people came, everything an artists desires from a gallery.

Living somewhat close to that gallery made it convenient to pop in on occasion. I went a few times to make contact with the gallery owner and see about future shows. Time went by and my contacts became less and more by phone. I later learned that the gallery owner had been 'renting out' the paintings to banks and corporate offices. That is not an unusual thing to do but it is unusual that the artist not be informed of it and receive a cut. I had no idea where my paintings were from one week to the next.

I moved to Hawaii leaving my paintings, all nicely framed, which was an expense and further investment on my part. I was new to the gallery scene though and still enamored that my work was in San Francisco in the famed Union Square. My investment was around 10 paintings as I recall.

Time passed and the gallery folded. The owner long gone. I lost all of my paintings and contact with the gallery owner completely.

Since that time I am very careful with galleries.

Consignment should provoke many questions. I live in Hawaii so obviously the shipping cost of my large paintings to ship to the mainland is not cheap. I do not pay for all of the shipping costs because of that and require the gallery to pay at least one way. I also require a very specific contract with the owners name and home phone and address.

There are a zillion galleries that come and go. Selling art is an art in itself and not everyone is in fact an artist. It is wonderful to have the opportunity to hang your work in a gallery especially in high traffic areas of the country, but it must be thought about as a commitment and business deal. If a gallery is going to 'make it' they will put the attention to detail that it needs to be successful. The contract must be well thought out first and foremost. Artists need to feel confident that their work will be hung with care and know when and if it goes into storage.

Galleries need to create a close relationship with their artists. They need to nurture the fledglings, and hype established artists. They need to create a family in a sense. They need to know that if the gallery fails they will have their work returned to them safely. Without that I am personally not comfortable being in a gallery no matter where it is. An artist should not undervalue themselves and ship out their work just because they are flattered for being asked. Likewise galleries need to respect the talent and energy that goes into a piece of art by attending to the details that make the relationship work and therefore become successful.

That was a real leaning experience for me as you might imagine. I have had other nightmares also, so I have had to put on a business hat as well as being an artist. Bad experiences are the reason I am extra cautious as to who and where I ship my work to. Normally I have a pretty strong bond with a gallery owner before I ship.

A few questions to ask a gallery:

Who pays the shipping costs? To and From.
Is there insurance, if so with who? and for how much?
Is there a trial period?
Who, what, where is the gallery owner?
Will the artist be notified if their work is temporarily put in storage?
Do they rent the work out? If so what is the artist's cut?
What is the % of a sale?

This list goes on of course. Think it through before you leave your work in any gallery. Gallery owners know how things should work, get your contracts complete and well thought out 'before' you approach an artist.

A good book to get is the latest Artist's and Graphic Designer's Market. It is full of info both for gallery owners and artists.

Artist Statement:

Color has an amazing ability to capture moods and emotions. I use color and paint application to express my gratitude towards nature as honestly as possible. The viewer returns that honest self expression when they connect to the painting.

Biography

Jacquie was born in Taunton, MA in 1966 and began drawing the Peanut characters at a very young age.

Although her formal education was in Business, art has always been a big part of her life and in 2000 she focused on learning to paint. She spent years painting on her own and creating smaller plein-air landscapes. This process and self-discipline gave her the best education on light and color. She built upon her color knowledge and currently creates vibrant and highly energized semi-abstract paintings.

Working in both oils and acrylics she first quickly lays down her initial colors and idea using a brush. She then begins to work more intuitively and very energetcially allowing the painting to dictate what it wants her to do. Most paint is applied with palette knives or squeezed out of the tube and drawn directly onto the canvas. She loves working with pure color and to loud music.

Jacquie is collected throughout the United States and Canada.

Blocking in Color

Blocking in the first layer of color is an extremely important step. It creates the overall color harmony of the scene and hopefully captures the initial idea.

In the painting “North River” (acrylic on canvas) I very quickly and vigorously layed down my main colors. This painting is based on a landscape I often drive by. Since it is late fall (practically winter) here in New England, the grass along the river is windswept and haylike and the blue river winds right through it. This all translates into a lot of energy and movement for me so I use that energy when working.

In this detailed picture, you can see how I am laying the paint down in varying levels of thickness. I just want to get the idea down in a loose and energetic fashion. I am also using some directional strokes especially for the river. While thinking about how the river is flowing away from me, I’m adding some paint in with my palette knife in a horizontal slashing manner.

After letting this dry for a day or two, I finished the painting by adding in some areas of a warmer and deeper orange. For this application, I am drawing directly on the canvas from a tube of paint, still with lots of energy. I will also squirt the paint with a shot of water, allowing it to drip and flow - more movement and energy.

Again, using my palette knife, I apply areas of thicker paint. Laying it on in different directions (like the windswept grass) to build up the texture and a sense of the wind. Finally I tone down some areas of the background and river to create the sense of the atmosphere.

Abstract Painting and Work on Paper

Artist's Statement:

My work is somewhere between abstract and completely non-objective. At times there seem to be recognizable images in my paintings, but these images lack definite boundaries and oscillate between possibilities. I am interested in the tension that occurs when perception is not absolutely clear.

I utilize both a control of the medium and an allowance for the accidental. Shifts of the image occur while I work and become part of the finished piece. The completed painting is my response to the unsettling relationship between random acts and carefully planned decisions. In every work I am concerned with the physical properties of the material and the metaphorical content of the image. These characteristics gave me the vocabulary needed for my current series The Worn City.

A city to me is a work of art. Our presence in it adds marks and layers to this never finished work. The city is transformed by the many people who congregate there: a patina covers the city from this collective marking that accumulates slowly over time. As the city changes, so do we. We carry it with us. It becomes part of us. The city is worn by us like a coat and it becomes worn by our wearing.

these are my words

eye was born a black crow
on the 13th day of a scorpio moon in the foothills of the Arkansas Ozark
Mountains to my scottish irish parents dismay...
they took me in nonetheless, fed me, clothed me, sent me to schools and tried
to domesticate me

eye attempted to live a normal life... finding employment,
trying to marry and even voting regularly.
but failed mostly and when eye
reached full crow adulthood (around 33) realized eye could
no longer deny my coyote nature and immediately began
turning over tables and rattling the cages

immediately said eye was crazy and lots complained eye should stop what eye was doin (those is the folks that let you know you is doing something rite) eye knew this was an
important breakthrough and immediately started looking for matches and kerosine

my paintings are my pointless attempts to wake up my higher nature
as eye play with the beauty and the beast
within myself
eye currently fly between new mexico and arkansas finding
both lands give me lots of nutritions

Bob is an email buddy, that is how I met him. Crazy how we develop friendships with people we have never met in person huh? Bob lives in New York and is a genius at expressing his own vision of fantasy. He and Marina Hadley opened up Monkdogz Urban Art in Chelsea. I had a show with them last April, '06, called "Seven". Darn cool!

Bob has a dog named 'Odie'. Call Bob up sometime and ask him to tell you the story behind Monkdogz and Odie. Ha ha... he is going to kill me for this one huh? Well, we just won't call him all at once! Don't you just 'adore' Odie's name?

Whimsical Musicians Artwork, A Fantasy Art Woman Debates About Enlightenment

Touch someone else in their heartache.
Know thirst before the rose is withered.
See bondage right before you.

Look out toward the horizon
and stand still.
Debate about enlightenment.
Accept only fragments of the words
that rush into your pond
creating rivers
before you even knew that it was raining.

It is not others who don the mask
oh no
It is you and it is I.

The salesman reeks of limitations
yet he is no different from any other warrior.
We all ponder our journey
and long to create an inner circle.
Our dreams should not be mapped
by forces outside our own imagination.
Expectations of flight should not be squandered
because others don't see our wings.

All the secrets in the world cannot tell you
what you have missed
if you only planted one single minded tree.

Take pause...
note a salesman has limitations.
They wear masks that do not show
their words are full of curtains.
Uncovered there is no tune
no whimsical musicians artwork
no fresh affirmations
that lead to new heights of refinement.

We should dance at midnight!
Feel satin on our skin
and culminate our boundaries
with a thousand and one questions.
Exalt the king inside
reproach the sounding dragon
ignore the fact that gifts are squandered
and seek out new ones.

Leave the dance exposed
when all is said and done
there is no wisdom past the mask
if the remnants of the empty salesmen
and his messages are unopened.

Decide that the page you turn
the affirmations you repeat
will be of your own making.
Step past the folded letter
it is not your law.
Reach higher
than where you thought you could barely touch
and light your own candle.
Be significant to YOU.

"Bubble Time"

Last April I fell and broke my right arm. I also received nerve damage and it is not certain that I will regain full use of my hand back. An artist without the use of her right hand is almost more than I could handle. I am drawing now though and am finding things I had not noticed before my fall. I wrote this poem in honor of new discoveries found and treasured.

"I Stood Inside A Rainbow"

I stumbled to find myself
wanting to be lifted
and yet
I fell to smell the earth.

I stayed there for hours
me in brown beginnings
researching the treasure
that before
I had only walked upon.

I pointed my finger
into a tiny hole.
I hoped I might discover
one thing different
I had not known before.

Alas I found myself mesmerized
as an ant climbed from it's cave.
One ant, one tiny ant
a delicate treasure and
a focus in my day.

He became like none other
I had ever seen before
because
I chosen to lean my attention
sit in pause
and hear life's unmistakable roar.

A reflection in a pond
beyond the ants tiny hole
I leaned to meet the journey.
Who knew a lake would open
by the magic of my own smile.

I found myself host
to a thousand tiny angels
and an afternoon of solace.
I toasted all the Universe
and from roses
I sniffed a glistening vapor of hope.

I knew thirst to touch the dew on roses
and treasure all they had to say
found comfort in their voices
as the sun met their moisture
of an ever so brilliant day

I stood inside a rainbow
Its colors met my skin.
Stepping then outside myself
decoding past objections
I accepted miracles were calling
and stood back to watch them grow.

"The Look"

This painting is not from 'any' series, I just painted it for no reason a while back. It seems to reflect my feelings about everything these days.

Some six months ago I fell down a flight of stairs and broke my RIGHT wrist in two places. Yes, I am right handed. After the cast was removed, which was too tight, I was left with nerve damage. I have been going to physical therapy to get the use of my hand back ever since. Yes.... I am paining. I did my first one about 3 weeks ago. Funny it is from my Wild and Crazy Series, my Walk On the Wild Side and all about Neon Blue Series..... lots of names for lots of emotions. I am done crying, I think. I am moving forward and learning to hold the brush in a different way. Yes I know there are people who paint and draw with their mouth. Let me tell you that just seems to be the 'wrong' thing to say.... sorry, I know people have good intensions.

As soon as I take a photo of the new painting I will post it here. Hopefully it will appear in the next few days. It is a 24x48. Let me tell you it weighs about a ton! It took many attempts to get my hand doing what I needed to do. BUT I DID IT! That is the most important thing right?

Exceed Your Potential, Aim Past Excellence: An Artist's Story of Serendipity

"Exceed your potential and your dream will be great. After you realize something is absolutely spectacular say to yourself, 'How can I improve this?" ~ Robert Hogge, Marina Hadley, Monkdogz Urban Art Gallery

I have been an artist since I was four years old. I can't help myself, I 'have to' paint and sculpt and create, it is in my soul. It is my love, my hobby, my craft. I am an artist who is constantly looking for representation and on the quest to get my work out there. Marketing is 3/4 of the ball game but for artists this often a difficult game to play.

Artists dream of hanging their work in New York, I am no exception. I am constantly putting out feelers, writing ezine articles, posting my work on on-line galleries and setting up places to show. I also respond to emails!

I met Bob and Marina through the internet. I received an email from Bob about two years ago complimenting me on my art. We became email buddies. Who can resist flattery right? Little did I know my email buddy had great things planned. One day you are email buddies sharing the small stuff, the next day your email buddy creates a gallery online. OK wonderful. I posted my art on his site. Bob had bigger things up his sleeve though. A few months later, with his long time business partner Marina, Bob opened his own gallery in Chelsea, New York! Wow!

I watched and listened and measured my own potentials as an artist as Bob and Marina lived up to their philosophy and continued towards excellence. Self improvement gurus always tell you to find a mentor then do what they do. My mentors had aimed beyond spectacular and met their target.

I received an email from Bob after the galleries first opening telling me of the nights events. Part of what he wrote to me is below:

"It's the White House." The first call of the evening Monkdogz Urban Art received congratulating them on the gallery and wishing the artists success came at the Presidents request from the White House! "The President couldn't come because of a scheduling conflict but wished Bob and Marina and the artists all the very best on their inaugural show." No matter what you think of the incumbent the response to their invitation was 'very cool!' ~Bob

Nothing Bob and Marina do is without consideration for excellence. Gallery and Studio Magazine's managing editor Ed McCormack, a former associate of Andy Warhol was interviewed and posted on Monkdogz online gallery debut. Ed and Jeannie McCormack cover the New York art scene and are still avid supporters of the Chelsea gallery.

Richard Calderhead of Art in NY wrote "No gallery in New York has more energy or heart for art"

In keeping with their philosophy of going beyond the spectacular, Bob and Marina did not stray from their vision.

I think we miss the serendipity of life sometimes. We plan and fret and spin our wheels. Sometimes we miss that our dreams are being fulfilled right in front of us and we walk past them. We work hard to meet our goals but fall short of noticing that 'spectacular' is within reach. As I said, I have been an artist since I was four years old, so why wouldn't I accept spectacular things happening? Why not? Why not see the same excellence I expect from my brush that meets my canvas to also find it's way to my dream of showing in New York? Why not? Why decide that dreams being met are for other people? Mentors come into our lives to show us the way.

So did I ever get my work to New York? Yes indeed I did! My show with Monkdogz Urban Art was called "7".

I will take in the sky
and hold it's beautiful offerings.
I will collect whimsical angels.
A one winged angel I will be.

I project the strokes it takes to paint this fairy.
I will push out colors
my palette close at hand.
My one winged angel
disguised at times
her identity to be revealed.

I sift through all my seeds
sort out the ones that will give new life
and watch the rest
fly softly into the wind
to safely find their way.

I reached beyond a rainbow
and drench myself in fairy dust.
I gathered mermaid pictures.
and magical mystical creatures.
I read legends of mermaids.
I had debates about enlightenment.
I heard tales from the lips of angels.
I am a fantasy wild woman,
a one winged angel.
I take out my crayons and make
tiny whimsical angel drawings.

I am a tiny fairy
a one winged angel
anything that strikes my fancy.
I am everything I decide to include
in my journal each and every day.
Words on pages
illustrations of my mood.
A one winged angel
or a culmination of visions.

I will paint whimsical musicians
and beautiful women.
I will sculpt a castle and live there at will.
I will gather letters from the tooth fairy
keep them in a wooden case for emergencies.
I will create a cabaña
serve chocolate eclairs and tea.
I will share my blessed cookbook
and quote affirmations of love.
I will post fairy coloring pages
set them in line
color them when I fell bored.
I will cut out paper dolls
that only dance at midnight.
I will find dragons, capture their fire
and warm my toes on cold days.
Goddess of art
a tale for today
I coast
I spin
I coat my visions with creativity.

I am or long to be.

Innocent angels
I gave you a key?
I opened the door often
so that you dear friends
would remember me.
There are no debates
about finding enlightenment
this window has never had curtains.
Samples of love affirmations

reminded me.

I am a one winged angel
and in my hand
I still have the treasures that sparked it all
my beautiful whimsical angel drawings
held fastly with my one free hand.

I just finished a 24x48 oil on canvas that is still drying... I will post the image soon. Gads it was so much fun to paint wild and free just letting color dictate what comes next. I am not a great fan of Matisse but I always think of what he said about color and that it to FEEL THE COLOR. Color dictates moods so be careful what color you paint your walls, ha ha.
